Philosophy of Education

My philosophy of education starts with a belief in education as a base for the growth of our youth. I feel that education often provides a pathway to the answers of the questions that plague our communities and environment. Today, education is mandatory; without it, people do not have the resources to survive and succeed in this world.

Education, however, is more than reading, writing, and math. Fine Arts create personal connections that draw people into learning. They inspire, educate, and inform both audiences and participants. Music and poetry can move people to tears or fill them with joy, while theater can offer new perspectives on life. These experiences help students feel empowered to grow in both their education and their lives. Through them, individuals and communities become stronger. Continued education is essential to the survival and progress of all.

Northside Independent School District | 2005–2009 and 2023-2026

Director of Bands & Jazz Band Director – John Jay High School (6A/5A)

Directed the 6A and 5A high school band program and jazz ensembles.
Assisted with Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and beginner brass classes at Jones Middle School and Rayburn Middle School.

San Antonio Independent School District | 2021–Present

Director of Bands – Burbank High School (5A)

Oversee all aspects of the 5A high school band program.
Assist with the band curriculum and development at Harris Middle School (CC).

Yoakum Independent School District | 2020–2021

Assistant Director & Middle School Director – Yoakum High School (3A) & Yoakum JH (C)

Served as assistant director for the high school marching band and symphonic band.
Directed the 7th-grade concert band and taught beginner instrumental classes at the junior high level.

Judson Independent School District | 2016–2020

Director of Bands & Jazz Band Director – Wagner High School (6A/5A)

Led the comprehensive high school band and jazz band programs through classification transitions.
Assisted with feeder programs at Kirby Middle School and Metzger Middle School (CC).

Boerne Independent School District | 2009–2016

Started and built the comprehensive high school band and jazz program from its inception.
Assisted with both the Symphonic Band and Honors Band at Boerne Middle School North (CC)

Served as Concert Band Director, Brass Instructor, and Jazz Band I Director.
Initiated the high school jazz program (1999–2000) and established the school's third concert band (2002–2003).
